Five-Minute Pick-Me-UP
Inspired by Yoga : Maya Fiennes

'I used to get panicky before concerts, to the point where I found it hard to take proper breaths - and my circulation was terrible, so my hands would freeze.'

Maya Fiennes first got into yoga to calm her nerves when she worked as a professional classical pianist - and was so inspired she became a yoga teacher. Here's a top tonic from her new book Yoga For Real Life (Atlantic).

Overcome tiredeness without caffeine
To help when you're tired, sit cross-legged or in a chair - you can do this pretty much anywhere. Close your left nostril and inhale and exhale through the right nostril only, as fast as you can, mouth closed. It completely energises you within a few minutes. Breathe normally to start with and, as you get more used to it, speed up a bit. See what works for you.
