Maya Fiennes - Yoga for Real Happiness
Maya practices and teaches kundalini yoga by focusing on breath and movement to open
the energy points along the body, which is said to move you into joy and peace. Achieving
the state, Maya explains will help you reach your full potential and tackle everyday life
with renewed enthusiasm and happiness.
Q) HOW AND WHEN DID YOU DEVELOP THIS TECHNIQUE?
After years of practicing different forms of yoga, fuelled by the search for spiritual growth,
I found kundalini yoga and my search was over! I was very taken by the direct way of reaching peace.
I then taught under Shiv Charan Singh at the Karam Kriya School in London to gain my certification.
Q) HOW IS IT SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT IN STYLE FROM OTHER FORMS OF YOGA?
While some of the poses - called kriyas - in kundalini yoga are the same as those in other types
many are not. This is very different in that you feel the change in your body immediately, even after
one class. It is a form of yoga that can be practiced by all ages, levels of experience and flexibility.
The use of music and sound is also important in kundalini yoga, as the vibrations are used to
clear various energy [chakral] blockages.
Q) WHAT WILL PEOPLE TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR WORKSHOP?
They will learn how breathing exercises, postures, mantras and meditation from kundalini yoga can help
them achieve happiness. My students will also be taught how to use their breath to achieve harmony between
mind, body and spirit.
Q) WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES AND AMBITIONS FOR THIS WORK?
I hope that through my teaching I am able to help my students realise
they all have happiness within them - it just needs to be unlocked to be
enjoyed. I also want to make sure everyone realises that their happiness is really a state
of mind and not something that can only be enjoyed momentarily. With the help of yoga, we can all
be happy, if not all the time, certainly most of it. Happiness prolongs our lives!
